Shawn and I (Sid) started TechOahu to become the resource we wanted to see in Hawaii - a single place that listed all the various tech events going on. When we first started it, there were 2 events a month, then one event a week, and now it seems there are 1-2 events a week. Some weeks, there are events every day - it’s a bit overwhelming.
We have reached the point where we have a vibrant tech community in Hawaii that has organized itself into a group on Ning - TechHui, and feel that their community created calendar serves the same purpose.
You may remain subscribed to TechOahu if you would like to see what we come up with going forward, but I recommend that you also subscribe to this feed: http://techhui.ning.com/events/event/feed . It will give you all the posted events at TechHui, and you can also find featured events down the right column at http://techhui.ning.com/. If you are organizing an event, pitch in and post it on there.
Ryan Ozawa also maintains the excellent Manoa Geeks site, which contains in depth coverage of local Tech Events, and perhaps may also be another site you can subscribe to and visit. If you look through our sites listed in the sidebar, you can find the varioust mailing lists and resources we have always used to put this site together.
So long, and thanks for coming along for the ride.
We’ll see you at the next Freehackers Union Meetup, Manoa Geeks, Truman’s Coworking Group, Eclipse Hawaii User’s Group, Hawaii All Geek Meet, Beer and Business, Flickr Friday, Bytemarks Lunch, Tweet-Up, Honolulu Coders, E-Waste Recycling, HVCA Luncheons, Mactoberfest, Web Weavers Workshops, HMAUS Brown Bags, Unconferenz, Hawaii Oracle Day, .NET Users Group, UH Business IP Forums, Cyber Pizza, Open Source Pizza, Mac a’hiki TechFest, Podcamp Hawaii (09 planning starts today) or any of the other wonderful tech events I may have forgotten to mention. And don’t forget, Wednesdays at 5 p.m. is Bytemarks Cafe on HPR.
(And you wondered how we could have been overwhelmed with posing tech events)
